Becoming an Active Steward of Chaunois History
At Mémoire et Patrimoine Chaunois, volunteer commitment (*le bénévolat associatif*) is the foundational pillar of everything we accomplish. We are an association of citizens who believe that understanding one's regional past deepens civic responsibility, fosters intergenerational solidarity, and protects fragile cultural assets that would otherwise disappear. We warmly welcome women and men of all backgrounds—students, working professionals, artisans, educators, and retirees—regardless of whether you possess formal historical credentials. What matters most is intellectual curiosity, dependability, and respect for our shared community heritage.
Every volunteer is supported through our structured Onboarding Apprenticeship Protocol. New participants are paired with seasoned association mentors who introduce them to our archival handling procedures, digitization equipment, and historical reference libraries. Whether you can donate two hours a month from home or two full afternoons each week at our headquarters on Rue du Général Leclerc, your contribution directly enriches the cultural commons of our territory.
Our Volunteer Ethics & Conduct Framework
As an organization operating strictly in the public interest, we adhere to high standards of civic integrity, mutual kindness, and intellectual honesty. Our volunteers commit to:
- Disinterested Commitment: Serving solely for public cultural benefit without seeking personal commercial advantage or private financial profit.
- Source Integrity & Objectivity: Transcribing archival records and conducting research with scrupulous fidelity to historical evidence, rejecting political manipulation or anachronistic distortion.
- Intergenerational Respect: Fostering an inclusive, supportive environment where younger students and elderly community members learn collaboratively from one another.
- Democratic Governance: Actively participating in association life, assemblies, and collaborative deliberations with fraternal transparency.
